Jéssica Ilfu-Soi is a Lisbon based artist, born in Angola with Cape Verde and Macanese heritage. Exploring the entangled connection between the spiritual and physical realms, Jessica channels the essence of her diverse background into one-of-a-kind sculptures. Her work evokes the lines of the feminine body and the richness of the natural landscape, from the movement of water to the layering of rocks, becoming metaphors for the ever-shifting dynamics of life.
Materials range from clay, concrete and sand with a warm colour palette of natural tones.
Often overlooked in their simplicity, Jessica feels a deep connection with these mediums and an understanding of their intrinsic qualities. Each piece is unique and meticulously sculpted by hand, creating organic forms and distinctive shapes through an intuitive process.
The tangible and the abstract converge, inviting the viewer not only to contemplate the work but to a tactile journey where running their fingers over the textured surface is possible, each touch revealing more.
Immersed in the echoes of ancestral imagery, Jessica's art convey a dialogue with the past, a bridge that spans generations. It's a celebration of identity, an exploration of self.
